## Statement

While campaigning against his opponent in the 2016 Sheriff's race in Deschutes County, Oregon, Sheriff Shane Nelson intentionally violated his opponent's (Deputy Eric Kozowski) First Amendment right to Free Speech. Kozowski successfully sued Sheriff Nelson in federal court and was awarded $1MIL dollars in damages - See case link for details - https://www.francishansen.com/jury-awards-over-1000000-against-deschutes-county-and-sheriff-shane-nelson/
